Alster Festival 2018 in Hamburg from 30th August until 2nd September (provisional dates)
The Alster Festival Hamburg is celebrated since 1976 in late August by the Alster lake and is now one of the most popular events in the Hanseatic city. More than 500,000 guests from Hamburg and around the world attend this festival, who are attracted by a varied entertainment programmes, dance events and culinary delights.
Visit the Alster Festival 2018 – Hamburg’s major maritime summer festival
The Hanseatic city celebrates the Alster Festival Hamburg against the backdrop of the Alster lake. Music and cabaret are presented on several stages, and follow the historic boat race, water competitions as well as other water sport activities. At the Jungfernstieg white pagoda tents are erected and sell culinary delights of selected Hamburg restaurants. Directly thereafter, at the Neuer Jungfernstieg, you will find a selection of fine foods and delicatessen stalls.
The Lombard bridge transforms during the Alster Festival into a large open air dance area, where you can swing your hips following live music. Join in the street party at Ballindamm where the Jungfernstieg crosses the Alster. The big party runs through several streets around the clock. A special experience for all golfers is the golf lounge, a converted container, where you can strike the ball onto a 30 meters away pontoon on the Alster Lake.
Exceptional highlights on the water
At the small Alster you can visit the four museum ships "Fortuna", "Hoop de Welvaart", "Moewe" and "Johanna von Övelgönne". The highlights of the Alster Festival include the nightly fireworks on the Inner Alster lake with background music, and of course many family activities, such as try out water bikes or roll in the large, air-filled balls across the water.
