The Hamburg triathlon for professionals and sport enthusiastics has been around since 2002.
Next to the 130 professional athletes are almost 10,000 non-professionals participating in the triathlon in the Hanseatic city. They have the choice to do the sprint or Olympic distance as an individual athlete or as part of a relay.
One of the highlights of the Hamburg triathlon is the especially popular route: swimming in the Alster lake, cycling along the river Elbe path and the spectacular finish at the Hamburg town hall market. About 300,000 enthusiastic spectators cheer the athlete along the route.
